 The Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton & the Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate are thrilled to bring to Oakville, Halton area this high quality festival/concert event:

“The Roots of Freedom Festival” 

featuring

Nathaniel Dett Chorale & Joe Sealy - Friday, October 22 at 8 pm

Everyone who participates in this fun-filled two-day festival will leave with a better understanding of the important role Oakville and Halton played in the historical transition away from slavery to freedom.

 

Friday, October 22nd, 2010:  (The Meeting House Theatre - 2700 Bristol Circle, Oakville, L6H 6E1)

The first day of the “Roots of Freedom Festival” starts with the Official Reception at The Meeting House, complete with The Oakvile Museum's mobile art exhibit of Oakville's early Black History that presents a fascinating part of Oakville's community historical heritage to all participants who attend.

 

The Main atraction will be hosted by John Campbell featuring performances by:

Nathaniel Dett Chorale and Joe Sealy

  • Muthadi African Drummers
  • CCAH Steel Band

  Saturday, October 23rd, 2010: (Oakville Museum, 5 Navy Street, Oakville)

The second day of the Festival includes:

  • The six sites walking tour at the Oakville Museum: the Pier, the Custom House, Captain Robert Wilson's House, The Canadian Hotel, the Granary, the Harbour, and the George Square and the Turner African Methodist Episcopal Church.
  • Oakville Museum Black History Exhibit with curator, interactive multi-media Black History attraction "The Underground Railroad: Next Stop Freedom!"
  • Presentations from local officials, and performances by local artists.

 2-day Festival Pass Pricing:

  • General Admission 2-day Pass: $15
  • Student Admission 2-day Pass: $10
  • Seniors Admission 2-day Pass: $10
